Rolls Wood Group awards its first Modern Apprenticeships

17-November-2011
Rolls Wood Group (RWG), a 50-50 joint venture between Rolls-Royce plc and Wood Group, has presented Modern Apprentice certificates to seven engineering apprentices, the first to complete their training within the dedicated RWG training centre in Aberdeen, which opened in 2007.

RWG’s four-year apprenticeship programme combines classroom learning with on-the-job training, mentoring and college day release. In year one, the students attained SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, as well as a National Certificate in either Mechanical Maintenance or Aeronautical Engineering. During years two to four they were assigned to one of RWG’s businesses – Avon, RB211, Olympus or Engineering & Component Technology – where they worked towards SVQ Level 3 in an appropriate engineering discipline.

Keith Brady, RWG Managing Director said, “Rolls Wood Group has a long-established commitment to training and we are proud to see the first group of qualified apprentices come through our training centre. These students have worked extremely hard and we wish them every success as they further their careers with us. There are currently 34 apprentices within our training centre, and we have successfully trained more than 100 during Rolls Wood Group’s 21 year history.”
